Lookups and searches
Pronunciation lookup runs in your browser after downloading static pronunciation data from this site. English phrase search filters the expressions already on the page. Neither tool saves a query history or automatically puts your input into the page URL.
The Chinese dictionary search uses a query parameter in its URL. If you open or share that address, the hosting provider receives it. The hosting provider may also record network information such as IP addresses, request paths and access times under its own policies.
Audio and device voices
Recorded syllables are hosted on this site and requested when you click play. Your input is not sent to the original recording provider. Copy buttons write to your clipboard only when you click them.
The optional device voice is provided by your browser and operating system. Some voices use an online service and may send your text to the system’s voice provider. That feature only starts when you click the device voice button.
Saved items and recordings in the Chinese edition
Saved items use this site’s local browser storage. They do not sync to a server. If local storage is unavailable, the site may use temporary session or page memory and explain the limitation. Removing a saved item or clearing site storage deletes it.
Where recording practice is available, microphone permission is requested only when you start recording. Recordings last at most 30 seconds, stay in page memory and are not uploaded. Stopping or leaving the page stops the microphone. A downloaded recording is yours to manage.
